Ga. Environmental Officials Ease Water Restrictions in 61
Drought-Stricken Counties
ATLANTA (AP) -- Swimming pools can be filled and hand
watering of landscaping can begin immediately in 61
drought-stricken north Georgia counties, the director of the
Environmental Protection Division said Tuesday.
The exemptions to water restrictions imposed last year must
be approved by the local water provider, such as a local
government or water utility, EPD director Carol A. Couch
said.
Hand watering -- one person with one garden hose -- must be
done between midnight and 10 a.m. on designated days based
on odd-numbered and even-numbered addresses for no more than
25 minutes.
A 10 percent reduction in water consumption ordered by Gov.
Sonny Perdue last year still be achieved under the
exemptions, officials said.
Couch said that starting April 1, monthly water use in the
61-county drought area would be compared to April-September
average monthly water use to ensure the conservation goals
are met.
Couch also said those who successfully complete an Outdoor
Water Use Registration Program can water newly installed
landscape up to three days a week following the odd-even
schedule for a period of 10 weeks.
That program will be available online at
http://www.urbanagcouncil.com beginning March 15.

Turf Preparation
This process is the instrument toward
achieving level turf. State of the art reel cut mowers scalp
your lawn down to set up for a correctly administered top
dressing. The reel mowers are designed to cut grass down
deep into the bumps and divots in your lawn allowing the top
dressing material free unobstructed passage to these areas
to promote a high quality leveling experience. |
|
The turf area is then
heart aerated to reverse compaction of the soil surface up to
3 inches. This allows the top dressing material to mix with
the existing soil and promotes root growth for a
healthy turf. |
|
A fertilizer is
applied as used on golf greens at the rate of one pound of
nitrogen per 1000 square feet. |
|
State of the art equipment is used to apply a
magnificent blend of a
compost and river sand mixture in a fashion across
the turf area. |
|
The turf area is then
dragged and swept to move the top dressing material to the
lower areas of the lawn in order to level the process. |
